Record-breaking "Civil War" hits theaters, depicts America's downfall

"Civil War," which opened in the U.S. on April 12, grossed $25.7 million in its first weekend, making it the best-opening independent film of all time.

The controversial film, distributed by TME Films, is set to hit Turkish theaters on April 19. It has ignited debate due to its perceived parallels to recent tensions between the U.S. government and individual states, sparking discussions about predictive programming and suggesting it foreshadows real-world events.

With deepening political divides and a crumbling economy, 19 states secede from the U.S., sparking a brutal civil war that forces a nation to confront its fractured identity. Set in the near future, it shows the U.S. on the brink of collapse.

Particularly noteworthy is the declaration of independence by Texas and California, and the struggle of a group of journalists to tell the biggest story of their lives during the civil war.

Written and directed by Alex Garland, screenwriter of cult films such as "Ex Machina", the film's cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Nick Offerman, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonica Gibbs and Jess Matney.
